Position Overview

  • Job Title: Technician 2 – Radio
  • Department: Engineering
  • Reporting to: Technical Specialist – Radio Communication
  • Contract Type: Unspecified Time Contract
  • Number of Positions: One (1)
  • Location: Geita, Tanzania

Purpose of the Role

The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing VHF/UHF radio communication systems, ensuring all equipment meets OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standards. The role supports the Mining Operations team by ensuring all radio communication systems function optimally for safe and efficient operations.

Key Qualifications & Experience

✔ Education:

  • VETA Trade Test Certificate Grade One / Level Three in Electronics & Telecommunication or VHF/UHF Radio Communication.
  • Diploma / Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Electronics & Telecommunication or VHF/UHF Radio Communication.

✔ Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in VHF/UHF, Digital/Analog Radio Communication Systems, GSM, and Solar System maintenance & installation.
  • Valid Tanzanian Driving License.

Key Responsibilities

✅ Radio Communication & Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a variety of 2-way radio communication systems and standalone towers.
  • Install and configure Repeaters, Radwins, VHF/UHF Frequencies, and Code Plug configurations.
  • Handle solar system and backup battery system installations.
  • Operate necessary tools and equipment safely and efficiently.

✅ Operational & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure work is conducted following strict safety practices and procedures.
  • Identify and report unsafe equipment or hazards.
  • Ensure all work aligns with OEM requirements, company policies, and industry standards.

✅ Work Planning & Execution

  • Effectively plan, execute, and complete maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct inspections for damages or defects, reporting findings promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment performance.
  • Work collaboratively with teams to minimize operational disruptions.

✅ Additional Responsibilities

  • Support troubleshooting and repairs of VHF Repeater/Combiners & Duplexer tuning.
  • Provide technical support for telecommunication tower maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Additional Requirements

✔ Strong experience in troubleshooting & maintenance of 2-way radio systems.
✔ Knowledge of auto electrical systems & air conditioning repairs (advantageous).
✔ Familiarity with solar energy installation & backup systems.
✔ Ability to work independently and meet work deadlines.
