Role Overview
Are you an experienced professional in business development with a passion for advancing child rights and welfare? Save the Children is looking for a Business Development Manager (BD Manager) to drive the growth of our programs by identifying and securing donor funding, developing impactful proposals, and fostering strategic partnerships. This key role requires someone with proven expertise in donor relations, strategic fundraising, and program development.
As the BD Manager, you will engage with donors, government officials, and partners to secure vital funding for our initiatives. You will also collaborate closely with our internal teams, particularly the Awards department, to ensure that all grants are managed effectively, with a focus on timely reporting and exceptional results.
This role is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and is open to national candidates only.
Key Responsibilities:
🔹 Identify and secure donor opportunities through research and networking.
🔹 Lead proposal development, ensuring high-quality, compelling bids for institutional and private donors such as USAID, FCDO, EU, ECHO, and Sida.
🔹 Coordinate proposal submissions, including multi-million-dollar project budgets and supporting documents.
🔹 Monitor the progress of major grants, ensuring the timely and accurate submission of reports to donors.
🔹 Develop and implement fundraising strategies that align with Save the Children’s mission and priorities.
🔹 Build and maintain strong relationships with key donors, partners, and stakeholders.
🔹 Prepare and deliver presentations to donors and partners, communicating project outcomes and new funding opportunities.
🔹 Work closely with internal teams to ensure that project proposals meet the needs of beneficiaries and comply with donor requirements.
What We’re Looking For:
Qualifications:
🎓 A Master’s degree in social sciences, international development, or a related field.
💼 5-7 years of experience working in both emergency and development contexts, with a strong track record of winning proposals.
🌍 Experience in two or more priority sectors for Save the Children: education, protection, health & nutrition, child rights governance, or child poverty.
📜 Extensive experience in developing proposals for major institutional and private donors like USAID, FCDO, EU, ECHO, Sida, and IKEA.
Skills & Competencies:
✔️ Excellent coordination, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
✔️ Expertise in writing and editing proposals, budgets, and reports, ensuring clarity and compelling storytelling.
✔️ Proven ability to present complex project details in an engaging, concise manner.
✔️ Demonstrated negotiation and representation skills, with the ability to influence and build partnerships.
✔️ Strong results orientation, challenging existing assumptions and driving strategic changes.
✔️ Ability to work in a multicultural environment, demonstrating cultural awareness and adaptability.
✔️ Fluency in English (both written and verbal) is essential.
