Position: Relationship Manager (1 Position)

Job Purpose:

Are you a dynamic banking professional with a passion for SME growth? NMB Bank PLC is looking for a Relationship Manager to drive the expansion of SME Assets & Liabilities (Deposits) while providing strategic business guidance. This role involves mentoring Relationship Officers, managing business customer recruitment, and ensuring sustainable growth within the SME segment.


Key Responsibilities:

📌 SME Business Growth & Sales Leadership

  • Spearhead the sales of SME loans and deposits across assigned zones, covering branches, business centers, and hubs.
  • Appraise SME credit applications, providing expert recommendations for decision-making.
  • Guide Relationship Officers in expanding SME portfolios and mobilizing deposits.
  • Collaborate with Branch Managers and Relationship Officers to structure financial solutions that balance risk and profitability.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Head of Department regarding business banking expansion.
  • Mentor and support Relationship Officers, ensuring continuous capacity building and business growth.
  • Monitor department budgets and ensure Relationship Officers meet sales targets within set timelines.
  • Develop budget projections, including targeted existing and potential clients for loans and cross-sold products.
  • Track and push for the conversion of potential pipelines into successful deals.
  • Engage stakeholders (credit, risk, operations) to ensure the SME portfolio maintains high standards.

📌 Portfolio Management & Risk Oversight

  • Monitor SME loan portfolio performance, ensuring PAR & NPL levels remain within acceptable risk thresholds.
  • Represent NMB Bank at key customer forums, fostering strong client relationships.
  • Proactively address potential business risks, working closely with credit, risk, and operations teams.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong credit analysis skills with an in-depth understanding of financial risks.
  • Expertise in SME markets and financial structuring to support business growth.
  • Deep knowledge of Tanzania’s banking sector and SME business landscape.
  • Strong customer relationship management with a solid understanding of loan products and banking policies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access for data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills (English & Kiswahili) with a persuasive approach.
  • Business management, leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.

Qualifications & Experience:

🎓 Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Banking, Economics, or related fields.
  • Master’s Degree (added advantage).

💼 Experience:

  • 5 years of experience in Business Banking or Relationship Management (3 years handling SME customers).
  • 3 years of credit analysis experience.
