The Role

We are seeking a dynamic and highly qualified professional to fill the position of:

Job Title: Research Manager
Location: Dar es Salaam
Reports To: Head of Health Management Information System (HMIS) and Research, Monitoring & Evaluation (RME)

The Research Manager will be responsible for conducting high-quality research and monitoring activities that support MST’s core business and projects. This role requires close collaboration with global data quality leads and MST’s country office teams to ensure high data quality standards within MSI’s global management information systems (MIS). The position will also work closely with the Global Support Office’s Evidence Focal Point and MSI’s Global Evidence Network/RME Community of Practice.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Research Design, Implementation & Dissemination

  • Implement MSI global research protocols, including Exit Interviews and Mystery Client Surveys, ensuring compliance with standardized methodologies.

  • Support the design and review of project evaluations, including oversight of consultancy work to maintain MST’s high standards.

2. Monitoring & Evaluation Analysis for Donor-Funded Projects

  • Collaborate with the RME team to assist project managers in preparing quarterly and annual reports based on key indicators.

  • Utilize MIS data to assess the effectiveness of facility and community-based program activities.

3. Development & Embedding of MST’s Management Information System

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a functional M&E-MIS system that aligns with MST’s objectives and indicators.

  • Conduct data quality assurance across various service delivery points and project levels.


Qualifications & Experience

Essential Skills & Experience:

✔️ 4-5 years of hands-on experience in a research-focused role, including study design, protocol development, statistical analysis, and fieldwork supervision.
✔️ Strong analytical and numerical skills with expertise in using Excel for data presentation.
✔️ Proficiency in SPSS and STATA, with experience in advanced quantitative analysis.
✔️ Background in reproductive health research and familiarity with routine health data.
✔️ Excellent communication skills in both English and Kiswahili, with the ability to convey complex RME concepts to non-experts.
✔️ Proven ability to produce clear, concise reports, incorporating charts and graphs for better data visualization.

Educational Qualifications:

🎓 Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Statistics, Epidemiology, Mathematics, or a related field with training in quantitative research methods.
🎓 Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Public Health, Research, Epidemiology, Statistics, International Development, Social Sciences, or Health Sciences, with specialized training in quantitative research methods.
🎓 Additional qualification or formal training in research design or impact evaluation.
🎓 Certification in Research Ethics.
