Working in collaboration with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, we promote environmental sustainability, regulatory compliance, and the development of a thriving marine-based economy.

Position: Senior Accountant

We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to manage financial operations, reporting, compliance, and internal controls within our organization. This role is crucial for maintaining financial integrity and ensuring smooth financial and administrative operations.

Key Responsibilities

✅ Financial Record-Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Record daily transactions in the general ledger.
  • Reconcile bank statements and accounts receivable/payable balances.
  • Support the head office team in monthly verifications and financial close processes.

✅ Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement).
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends and potential risks.
  • Develop financial reports and presentations for management review.

✅ Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets.
  • Forecast future financial requirements for funding requests from the head office.

✅ Statutory Compliance:

  • Ensure timely preparation and filing of statutory obligations (TRA, ZRA, ZSSF).
  • Stay updated on mandatory tax laws, levies, and other financial regulations.

✅ Internal Controls:

  • Implement and monitor internal control systems to protect assets.
  • Develop mitigation strategies to minimize risks of fraud and errors.

✅ Auditing and Compliance:

  • Assist in both internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards (IPSAS, IFRS) and financial best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

📌 Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) are an advantage.

📌 Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in finance, accounting, or auditing.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles, tax laws, and compliance requirements.

📌 Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, SAP).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.

📌 Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments.
  • Experience working with Zanzibar tax laws and regulations is a plus.
