The Tanzania Women Lawyers Association (TAWLA) is a Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to advocating for gender equality, human dignity, and justice through policy reforms, community engagement, legal advocacy, and institutional change. Since its establishment in 1989, TAWLA has been at the forefront of empowering women and girls in Tanzania.
TAWLA is a key technical partner in the implementation of the BRIGHT Project, aimed at improving adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) and nutrition care services for young and/or pregnant girls in rural Tabora. This project focuses on family planning, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, antenatal/postnatal care, and life skills promotion.
📝 Job Overview
As a Council Project Coordinator, you will act as the primary liaison between TAWLA and local government authorities to ensure the successful implementation of the BRIGHT Project at the council level. Your role will involve coordinating activities, ensuring policy alignment, mobilizing resources, and advocating for project goals.
📌 Key Responsibilities
✅ Act as the main point of contact between TAWLA and local government departments (Health, Education, Social Welfare).
✅ Oversee the execution of project activities within the council, ensuring alignment with the project work plan and relevant policies.
✅ Organize and facilitate stakeholder meetings, training workshops, and community engagement sessions.
✅ Mobilize resources and obtain necessary approvals from council authorities.
✅ Support healthcare providers, community health workers, and local personnel in delivering integrated ASRH and nutrition services.
✅ Advocate for ASRH, gender-based violence prevention, and nutrition services among council officials, community leaders, and stakeholders.
✅ Identify and actively engage key local stakeholders to ensure community participation and project success.
✅ Ensure all activities comply with local regulations, policies, and ethical guidelines.
✅ Prepare and submit weekly progress reports to TAWLA.
✅ Maintain accurate records of council interactions and official approvals.
✅ Collaborate closely with the TAWLA project team to enhance communication and coordination.
✅ Carry out other legal duties as assigned.
🎯 Qualifications & Requirements
✔️ Bachelor’s Degree in Project Planning, Management, Community Development, Law, or related fields.
✔️ 2-3 years of experience in GBV and sexual reproductive health rights projects.
✔️ Strong leadership, team-building, and operations management skills.
✔️ Experience in policy advocacy and government engagement on nutrition or public health programs.
✔️ Knowledge of international quality standards for health and nutrition programs.
✔️ Proven ability to drive operational efficiency and quality improvements.
✔️ Fluent in English (both verbal and written communication).
✔️ Strong advocacy, negotiation, and presentation skills.
