Role Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic Associate Scientist to conduct research on natural resource management (NRM), landscape restoration, and climate change, with a particular focus on agroforestry, agriculture, and forestry ecosystems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead research and development initiatives on agro-ecological and soil health in agroforestry, agriculture, and forest ecosystems.

  • Support the development of tree seed and seedling supply systems in Tanzania, including indigenous tree domestication and value addition.

  • Conduct research on bioenergy and the circular bioeconomy in Tanzania.

  • Contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation research in agriculture, forestry, and related ecosystems.

  • Engage in climate financing research, including carbon farming initiatives in Tanzania.

  • Oversee field operations related to CIFOR-ICRAF’s biophysical research and development activities in Tanzania.

  • Supervise and collaborate with local partners, institutions, students, and researchers.

  • Train farmers, interns, and project partners on agroforestry and CIFOR-ICRAF research methodologies.

  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, policy briefs, manuals, and scientific publications.

  • Support the development of policy frameworks for agroforestry, climate change, and natural resource management (NRM) in Tanzania.

  • Work alongside the Country Representative to secure funding and mobilize resources for CIFOR-ICRAF programs.


Qualifications & Experience

  • MSc. degree in Agroforestry, Agriculture, Environmental Science, NRM, Forestry, or a related discipline.

  • Strong understanding of agroforestry, climate change, and NRM programs in Tanzania.

  • Experience leading fieldwork, training farmers, and scaling agroforestry technologies.

  • Minimum 3 years of research experience in agroforestry, agriculture, climate change, forestry, or NRM projects.


Terms & Conditions

  • This is a Locally Recruited Position, and CIFOR-ICRAF offers a competitive remuneration package in local currency based on skills and experience.

  • Duty station: Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
